About
Smith & Clay is an independent butcher and deli with shops in Buckingham and Brackley. We work closely with local farmers including our family farm at Newbottle Estate. We focus on short, transparent food chains—keeping sourcing local wherever possible, with full traceability, high welfare standards, and fair value for both farmer and customer. Alongside our retail shops, we run a growing wholesale business supplying local pubs, restaurants hotels and events. We also offer private butchery services for local farmers, village shops and small producers—helping them prepare and sell their own meat through properly butchered, ready-to-retail cuts. We work with whole carcasses and tailor our service to each customer. Alongside this, we run an apprenticeship programme to train the next generation of butchers and help keep these traditional skills within the trade. Our deli offers handmade pies, sausage rolls, prepared meals, and a hot counter—making it easier to choose high-quality, locally sourced food day to day. We also deliver nationwide for those without access to a local butcher. Smith & Clay was awarded Countryside Alliance National Butcher Champion 2019, was a finalist in the National Craft Butchery Awards 2025, and our deli is currently shortlisted its a finalist n the Farm Shop & Deli Awards 2026 at the NEC.
